Facing a giant you just can’t seem to conquer?
Most people are.
Like the Israelite spies that Moses sent to scout out the Promised Land, we often feel like grasshoppers as we face our giants. We feel inadequate, incapable, impotent…. Like the Israelites, we claim defeat before the battle begins.
What are your giants? A giant might be:
• An attitude or behavior that keeps you from a victorious Christian life.
• A very real problemthe lack of a job, a difficult marriage, problem children….
• A call from God that you would rather ignore.
Defeat is not God’s plan for any of us. Rather, God’s plan is for us to conquer our giants and claim the land promised to usbecoming conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.
Back in the desert, only two menordinary menstood firm in the face of unbelief and fear. Young Caleb insisted, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” Only his friend Joshua stood with him. Forty years, they finally had their chance.
Conquering Your Giants is both topical and inductive, covering the entire book of Joshua from the perspective of conquering giants. It is intensely personal and application-oriented, calling you to measurable life changes. Because of its personal nature, it is ideal for both individual and small group use, especially for people in need of healing or renewing the mind.
The study has 12 lessons, but because of the discussion they generate, we recommend that groups spend two weeks on a lesson, making it perfect for a nine-month study (with room for a few non-study weeks). Each lesson requires approximately two hours of homework (or one hour per week if you take two weeks). The study is designed for a facilitated discussion and does not require a teaching segment.
